Cream Cheese Danish

My absolute favorite thing to make is bread, and combine cream cheese with the bread, and it's a keeper! So, as I have done a few times in the past I ventured to make the divine cream cheese danish. With my mom and sis, I helped them learn how to make this super yummy dessert/bread/appetizer etc.

First the ingredients

  • 1/4 C warm water
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1/2 t. sugar
  • 1/2 C sour cream
  • 1/4 C butter
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 C flour
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 1/2 t vanilla extract (if using real vanilla half amount of vanilla)
Start by mixing warm water, yeast and 1/2 t sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or so. I usually let it sit while preparing the next part.

In a small pot combine butter and sour cream. Heat on medium until melted stirring constantly. After melted add 1/4 C sugar and salt until sugar is melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Once cool, add egg and mix well.

Add mixture into the prepared yeast. Mix flour in until mixed completely.

Refrigerate for 2 hours or more

After left in refrigerator for at least 2 hours, remove and roll out like you would pizza dough or sugar cookies. Roll out into a rectangular shape.
Cut slits in each end towards middle

Combine 8 oz cream cheese, 1/4 C sugar and vanilla.

Spread the mixture along the middle of the dough
Once the cream cheese mixture is spread along the dough, fold the slices created from the slits over and braid them.

Bake for 15-18 min (or longer) at 350° until golden brown. Cut and enjoy!
